Sigismund's tenure over Silesia was administratively turbulent — he had pawned the region to his Hohenzollern creditors and spent much of this period managing the Hussite wars raging across Bohemia, which disrupted trade routes directly feeding Breslau's merchant economy. The city's right to strike these small-denomination hellers operated under royal privilege, and Breslau jealously guarded that privilege against periodic royal attempts to consolidate minting authority.
At 0.35 g, these were the smallest transactional unit in daily Silesian commerce, subject to heavy wear and frequent clipping.
