Louis II ruled Liegnitz-Brieg during a period when Silesian coinage was fragmenting badly across competing ducal lines, each issuing petty denominations that rarely traveled far beyond their own markets. The heller was the smallest practical silver denomination in circulation, and at this weight it would have changed hands thousands of times in local trade before wearing to illegibility.
