Aanvullende informatie

Charles IV secured the Bohemian crown decades before becoming Holy Roman Emperor, but it was his imperial status after 1355 that drove a systematic overhaul of Bohemian coinage infrastructure. The heller — a fractional denomination borrowed from the German Heller tradition originating at Hall in Swabia — circulated as the workhorse of daily small commerce, filling the gap between the prestigious Prague groschen and the absolute bottom of the monetary ladder.

Charles's reign saw Kutná Hora operating at peak silver output, fed by the rich Bohemian mining districts he actively protected through legislation.
