| Obverse description | A harpy depicted in profile flying to the left, rendered in archaic Greek style with outstretched wings and characteristic avian body terminating in a female head. The creature clutches a tunny fish firmly in its talons, the tunny being the civic emblem of Kyzikos and a recurring type-element on its electrum coinage. The design is executed in high relief against a plain, unprepared field typical of early Kyzikene hektes. The engraving displays bold, confident incision consistent with the accomplished die-cutting tradition of late Archaic Asia Minor. |
