Reverse description Quadripartite incuse square divided into four irregular compartments by a raised cross-bar, struck in deep relief as is characteristic of early Archaic electrum coinage from Ionia. The incuse punch displays a rough, irregular surface texture typical of the primitive punching technique employed at Phokaia during the late seventh and sixth centuries BC. No inscription or secondary device is present. The four quadrants show slight asymmetry reflecting hand-struck production. This incuse reverse type is consistent with Bodenstedt's classification of early Phokaian hektes.
