Kyzikos dominated western Anatolian trade finance for much of the fifth and fourth centuries through near-monopoly control of electrum coinage, and the hekte was its workhorse denomination. The city's electrum was alloyed to a remarkably consistent standard across centuries of production, a reliability that made Kyzikene staters and their fractions acceptable tender well beyond the Black Sea littoral — into Thrace, the Greek mainland, and Persian-controlled territories simultaneously.
Von Fritze's cataloguing of this series remains the foundational reference, though many individual hekte types still lack French and Aulock corpus numbers, as this piece does — a reminder of how incompletely the full series has been systematically assigned.
