Obverse description Draped and veiled bust of Demeter facing right, her hair elaborately coiffed beneath a veil rendered in finely engraved parallel folds that sweep across the field. A wreath of grain ears crowns her head, rendered with delicate naturalistic detail characteristic of late Classical Greek die-cutting. The facial features are modelled in high relief with a sensitively rendered profile, conveying the serene, idealized quality associated with the finest Mytilenaean electrum coinage. The field is plain, the flan slightly convex in the characteristic globular style of Lesbian hektes.
