Beschrijving keerzijde Quadripartite incuse square deeply impressed into the flan, divided by two perpendicular raised ridges into four symmetrical recessed compartments of roughly equal size, a hallmark of early Greek hammered coinage technique. The incuse is well-centered on the irregularly shaped flan, with the four quadrants showing slightly varied surface texture due to the hand-striking process. No inscription or additional device is present.

Aanvullende informatie

Kyzikos dominated electrum coinage in the eastern Aegean for roughly two centuries, and the city's hektes circulated far beyond Mysia — recovered from hoards across the Black Sea littoral, the Levant, and mainland Greece. The alloy used at Kyzikos was natural electrum from regional sources, with a gold content that varied enough between issues to be distinguishable by specific gravity. H&L II#34 places this piece among the earlier phase of the series, predating the city's later standardization efforts.
