| Reverse description | A boldly struck quadripartite incuse square dominates the reverse, the four recessed compartments divided by raised diagonal ridges meeting at the centre, producing a windmill or pinwheel effect. This deeply impressed incuse punch is the hallmark of early Greek electrum coinage struck by the hammer technique, functioning as a countermark to ensure the integrity of the metal. The surface within each quadrant shows irregular granular texture from the original die strike. No legend or subsidiary device is present. The incuse design is fully centred on the compact, slightly convex flan. |
