| Obverse description | Forepart of a roaring lion facing right, rendered in high relief with boldly articulated mane rendered in finely engraved striated locks radiating from the crown of the head. The open jaws expose the teeth and tongue, conveying ferocity characteristic of Lesbian electrum coinage. The design fills the irregularly rounded flan, with the lion's head dominating the field in a vigorous archaic style typical of early fifth-century BC Asia Minor mint output. |
