| Beschrijving voorzijde | Facing right, the bearded head of Silenos is rendered in high relief with exceptional archaic naturalism, his diadem binding the hair above a furrowed brow. The facial features are characteristically Silenoid: a broad, flattened nose, deeply set eye with incised brow, and a full beard with carefully engraved striated locks cascading below the chin. Two small horns emerge from the crown of the head, identifying the figure unambiguously as the satyr Silenos of the Dionysiac retinue. The flan displays the warm golden hue typical of Mytilenean electrum coinage, and the portrait fills the obverse field with confident, plastic modeling characteristic of late Archaic Lesbian die-cutting. |
