Phokaia's electrum hekte coinage survived long after most Greek cities had abandoned the metal entirely, sustained by a formal agreement with Mytilene on Lesbos — the two cities alternated annual issues under a pact that modern scholars call the Phokaia-Mytilene agreement, likely formalized around 400 BC. The arrangement guaranteed a consistent electrum currency for Aegean trade even as Persian pressure and shifting alliances repeatedly disrupted the broader region.
Bodenstedt 109.2 falls within the final phase of this series, before Phokaia's autonomy was effectively extinguished by Alexander's campaigns in western Asia Minor.
