| Obverse description | Facing left bust of Omphale, the Lydian queen, depicted wearing a lion skin headdress, the mane and jaws framing her face in a characteristic Heraklean motif. A club is visible behind her neck, serving as a secondary attribute referencing the Heraklean iconographic tradition. In the lower field, a small seal (phoca) facing left serves as the civic badge of Phokaia, a punning device on the city's name. The engraving is executed in fine archaic Greek style with carefully rendered facial features. |
