Obverse description Forepart of a seal (phoke) in high relief facing left, rendered in archaic Greek style with boldly modelled musculature and naturalistic curvature of the body. The creature's head is turned slightly downward, with clearly delineated facial features and a rounded snout characteristic of early Phokaian coinage. The design fills the irregular flan, which displays the characteristic convex surface typical of early electrum hektes. The incuse reverse punch mark is visible on the flat side. The seal serves as a civic badge of Phokaia, a visual pun on the city's name.
