| Beschrijving voorzijde | Frontal half-length effigy of Louis XII, crowned and robed, holding a sword in his right hand and a fleur-de-lis scepter in his left, depicted in a formal regal pose characteristic of late medieval hammered coinage. The figure is enclosed within an inner beaded circle. The circumferential legend in uncial Gothic characters reads LVDVICVS REX PVIE COmES, identifying the king as Louis XII, Count of Provence. The die workmanship reflects the provincial style of the Aix-en-Provence mint, with somewhat crude but expressive rendering of the royal portrait. |
