Obverse description Within a beaded outer border, the royal legend is arranged in two lines around a raised inner circle, itself enclosing a small cross pattée at centre. The inscription reads +EADRED RE, identifying the issuer as King Eadred, rendered in Anglo-Saxon square capitals with crosslet dividers. The design is characteristic of the Two Line type, with the lettering disposed around the central motif in the simplified, abstract manner typical of mid-tenth-century English hammered coinage.
