| Beschrijving keerzijde | A tall, finely detailed ear of barley occupies the central field, with a curved stem and leaf extending to the lower left, emblematic of the agricultural prosperity of the Metapontine region. To the right of the grain ear, a small owl stands facing, a symbol associated with Athena and a recurring type on later Metapontine issues. The ethnic legend META is inscribed vertically to the left of the central type in incuse Greek letters. The composition is bold and well-centered on the broad flan, consistent with the hammered silver coinage of Lucanian Metapontion during the Second Punic War period. |
