Aelia Flaccilla, wife of Theodosius I, was the first empress to appear on bronze coinage in her own right — a deliberate assertion of dynastic legitimacy at a moment when Theodosius needed to consolidate support across both halves of the empire. She died in 386, making the production window for her coinage extremely narrow. The Cyzicus mint, one of the more active eastern workshops of the period, struck this type during that brief interval.
RIC IX Cyzicus 27 is among the smaller module issues of her reign, reflecting the general contraction of bronze denominations in the late fourth century.
