Additional information

Ahmad Shah I founded Ahmedabad in 1411 — the city that bears his name — and the early coinage of his reign reflects a sultanate still consolidating its administrative and monetary infrastructure after breaking from the Tughluq-controlled Muzaffarid governors. The fractional copper issues like this half falus served the lowest rungs of market exchange in a region increasingly prosperous from textile and maritime trade through Cambay.
