Obverse description At center, a traditional Catawba ceramic pot occupies the field, its surface bearing a portrait effigy of Chief Haigler, the first principal chief of the Catawba Nation. The Catawba River is depicted flowing behind the pot as a scenic backdrop. The circular design is framed by the sovereign seal of the issuing nation. The legend arcs around the periphery of the coin in two lines.

Reverse description The reverse depicts a detailed historical scene of multiple figures gathered on a shoreline, rendered in high relief against a darkened field. Among the group, several individuals bear spears or rifles, evoking a moment of encounter or assembly. A geometric, stylized border of triangular Native American motifs frames the entire composition. The legend 'CATAWBA TRIBES 2023' arcs along the upper periphery in an informal hand-cut style, while the denomination 'HALF DOLLAR' appears at the base within the decorative border.
