| Reverse description | A stylized grapevine bearing four clusters of grapes, rendered within a linear square border, the whole design set within a deep incuse square. The vine motif is the central civic type of Maroneia, a Thracian coastal city celebrated in antiquity for its wines. The incuse square is characteristic of early Greek coinage technique. The ethnic inscription ΜΑΡΩΝΙΤΕΩΝ is disposed around the vine within the linear frame. The overall execution is bold and deeply struck. |
