| Beschrijving voorzijde | Central field displays the royal arms of Augustus II as Elector of Saxony and King of Poland: a quartered shield surmounted by an electoral crown, supported on either side by elaborately rendered antler-like foliate ornaments. The lower portion of the shield bears the crossed swords of the Electorate of Saxony, while the upper quarters display the Polish eagle and Lithuanian Pursuer. Below the shield, the mint-master's initials EPH appear in the exergue. The entire composition is rendered in a bold, slightly archaic baroque style characteristic of early eighteenth-century German mint work. |
