Obverse description Within a raised inner circle on a square flan, a bear passant to the left, depicted in low relief in the crude hammered style typical of 14th-century Swiss municipal coinage. The bear, heraldic symbol of Solothurn, is shown with its characteristic stocky body, the head turned slightly upward. The abbreviation SO appears in the field, referencing the issuing city. The surrounding area between the inner circle and the irregular square border is flat and unadorned.
