| Descrizione del dritto | Central device comprises a heraldic shield bearing the lozengy arms of Bavaria (bendy lozengy azure and argent), set within a quatrefoil or four-lobed Gothic frame. The shield is rendered in high relief with bold diagonal lozenges characteristic of Wittelsbach heraldry. A beaded inner circle surrounds the central composition, with the circumferential legend in Gothic uncial lettering reading GVILLELMVS DVX COMES HOLAD, identifying William (V) as Duke of Bavaria and Count of Holland. The coin's irregular flan and hammered fabric are consistent with mid-fourteenth-century Low Countries gold coinage. |
