Obverse description Central field displays a large quartered heraldic shield bearing the arms of the Bishopric of Utrecht, surmounted by a mitre and flanked by elaborate Gothic architectural elements. The shield is composed of multiple quarterings incorporating the arms associated with Bishop David of Burgundy. The entire central device is enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The surrounding legend in Gothic characters reads MON NOVA AVREA TRAIECTEN, separated by decorative stops, identifying this as a new gold coin of Utrecht.
