Reverse description The reverse features a standing allegorical figure of the Dutch Maiden (Hollandse Maagd), draped and shown in full length, leaning with her left arm upon a Bible resting atop a column, symbolizing religious foundation. Her right hand raises a spear surmounted by a Liberty cap (pileus), an emblem of freedom. The denomination value is divided in the field to either side of the figure. A Latin legend encircles the design, reading HAC NITIMVR HANC TVEMVR. The engraving, attributed to Daniel Drappentier, displays a refined baroque style characteristic of Holland's pattern coinage of this period.
