| 裏面の説明 | Saint John the Baptist depicted standing facing, nimbed and clad in long pleated robes, holding an attribute in his hands within a beaded inner circle. A fleur-de-lis appears at the base of the design. Stars punctuate the legend, which runs in Gothic uncial letters around the periphery, identifying the patron saint. The overall style is characteristic of late medieval Rhenish gold florin coinage. |

Charles of Egmond's father, Adolf, was killed fighting against Burgundian forces at the Battle of Tournai in 1477 — the same year this gulden was struck. Charles himself spent much of his youth as a hostage at the Burgundian court, and Guelders' minting activity during this narrow window reflects the duchy's fierce effort to reassert autonomy following the death of Charles the Bold at Nancy that same year. The sudden Burgundian collapse created a political vacuum that Egmond moved quickly to exploit.
Delmonte's rarity rating for this type is among the higher classifications in the series.
