Obverse description Armored and crowned effigy of King Stefan Batory facing right, wearing a ruffled collar beneath plate armor, with a full beard and moustache rendered in fine relief. The royal crown above the effigy is of open form with elaborate foliate ornamentation. The legend runs along the periphery between an inner beaded border and the coin's rim, reading clockwise in Latin abbreviation.

Reverse description Central device consisting of the crowned civic arms of Gdańsk — a gold cross surmounted by two crosses passant on a shield-less composition — with the four digits of the date (1578 or 1579) flanking the arms on either side in the field. A large ornate royal crown rises above the device. The circumferential Latin legend is separated from the central type by a beaded inner border, with a rope-pattern outer border running along the rim.
