Obverse description A stylized city gate (castello), symbolic of Genoa, depicted centrally beneath which appears the doge's identifying letter, all enclosed within a polylobe border decorated with trefoils at each internal point. The entire design is further contained within a reeded (beaded) inner circle. The surrounding legend, rendered in uncial Latin, identifies the issuing doge as the fourth doge of the Genoese, with the inscription terminating near the gate motif.
