The circumferential legend, struck in uncial characters, reads DVX IANVENSIVM PRIMV, identifying Simon Boccanegra as the first Doge of Genoa, and is separated from the inner design by a beaded border. A mint sigil appears below the castle within the quatrefoil. The overall design follows the established Genoese grosso tradition, combining civic heraldic imagery with the doge's title. |
