| Obverse description | Half-length crowned bust of Emperor Frederick II facing right, depicted in imperial regalia. The emperor holds a fleur-de-lis tipped sceptre over his right shoulder and a flower in his left hand. The effigy is rendered in a bold, stylised Romanesque manner characteristic of mid-13th century Italian communal coinage. The circumferential Latin legend names the emperor, enclosed within a beaded border. |
