| Reverse description | Full-length frontal figure of Saint John the Baptist, the patron saint of Florence, depicted standing in hieratic style wearing a rough mantle. He holds a long cross-tipped sceptre in his raised right hand while his left hand is extended outward. Two stylized saplings (Italian: alberelli) flank his lower legs on either side, a distinctive feature of this Popolino type. A mintmaster's mark precedes the peripheral Latin legend, which is separated by pellets, all within a beaded border. |
