| Obverse description | Within a beaded inner circle, a frontal half-length figure of Saint John the Baptist, nimbate, draped in a cloak of animal skins, raising a cross-tipped staff in his right hand — the staff crossing the inner beaded border at the top — while his left hand holds a scroll or banner inscribed ECCE, dividing the lower portion of the inner circle. The figure is rendered in the stylized Romanesque-Gothic manner typical of Florentine coinage of the early fourteenth century. A surrounding outer legend is separated from the inner circle by a second beaded border. |
