Louis of Campofregoso seized the dogeship of Genoa in 1461 with Milanese backing, only to be expelled the following year when Francesco Sforza withdrew his support and the city fell back into Forzieri hands. His tenure lasted barely fourteen months. Coins struck under his authority are correspondingly scarce, and this grosso represents one of the shorter-lived Genoese doge issues of the fifteenth century.
