背面描述 Saint Tryphon, patron saint of Kotor, depicted standing facing in full length, nimbed, within a mandorla (in certain varieties) or between two stars, holding a palm leaf in one hand and a cross in the other as attributes of martyrdom. The figure is rendered in the Gothic hieratic style typical of medieval Dalmatian civic coinage. The circular legend naming the saint and the city of Cattaro runs along the border of the flan.

附加信息

Cattaro (modern Kotor, Montenegro) struck this grosso during the brief window of Hungarian suzerainty under Louis I of Anjou, who had wrested Dalmatian coastal control from Venice by the Treaty of Zadar in 1358. The city retained considerable municipal autonomy under Hungarian overlordship, and its coinage reflected that local authority rather than direct royal issue. Louis died in 1382, and the succession crisis that followed reopened the entire Adriatic coast to Venetian pressure — Cattaro would eventually fall back to Venice in 1420.
