Obverse description Crowned monarch (Louis I of Hungary) enthroned facing, rendered in Gothic style, holding royal regalia with lilies flanking the figure in some varieties. The king is depicted in full frontal majesty on a decorated throne, with the royal mantle draped over the shoulders. A beaded inner circle frames the central device, with the circular legend running between the inner and outer borders of the flan.

Reverse description Saint Tryphon, patron saint of Kotor, depicted standing facing in full length, nimbed, within a mandorla (in certain varieties) or between two stars, holding a palm leaf in one hand and a cross in the other as attributes of martyrdom. The figure is rendered in the Gothic hieratic style typical of medieval Dalmatian civic coinage. The circular legend naming the saint and the city of Cattaro runs along the border of the flan.
