Obverse description Central field displays three ermine spots arranged in a triangular grouping, each rendered as a stylized heraldic ermine tail surmounted by a small cross, emblematic of the arms of Brittany. The devices are set within a plain inner circle bordered by a beaded ring. The surrounding legend, in Gothic lettering, reads the duke's titulature and is separated from the central device by the inner beaded border. The flan is irregular and slightly convex, as characteristic of hammered medieval coinage. The overall style reflects the late medieval Breton minting tradition.

Obverse lettering ✠ IOHANNES + BRITONU . DUX + V .
(Translation: John, duke of the Brittons.)
Reverse description Central field features a large ornate cross with fleurs-de-lis terminating each arm, set within a beaded inner circle, characteristic of the Gothic cross type employed in Breton ducal coinage. The four quarters formed by the cross arms are plain. A beaded border separates the central cross from the circumferential legend, which encircles the entire reverse. The legend is rendered in Gothic letters and carries a devotional religious invocation. The flan is irregular and of variable thickness, consistent with hammered silver production of the period.
