| Obverse description | Central field features the quartered shield of Lorraine enclosed within a beaded inner circle, surmounted by a pair of crossed swords at the top of the shield. The shield is set within an ornate six-lobed (hexilobe) gothic frame formed by pointed cusps. A Gothic Latin legend encircles the design in the outer field, beginning at the position of the crossed swords: KAROLVS: DVX: LOThOR`: ET: MAR`, identifying Charles as Duke of Lorraine and Marquis. The flan is irregular and slightly ragged at the edges, characteristic of hammered medieval coinage. |

| Reverse description | Central device consists of a bold cross pattee inscribed within a beaded inner circle, dividing the central field into four equal quarters. A double concentric Latin legend surrounds the central medallion: an inner legend reading MOnETA: SIERK` identifies the mint at Sierck-les-Bains, while the outer legend carries the devotional inscription BNDICTV`: SIT: nOmE`: DnI`: IhV`: XPI`, the conventional medieval benediction invoking the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. The lettering is rendered in Gothic script typical of late 14th- to early 15th-century Lorraine coinage, with the legends separated by a beaded border. |
