| Reverse description | Central field features a floriated cross pattée with ornate trefoil or fleur-de-lis terminals at each arm, executed in high relief characteristic of Breton hammered coinage of the mid-14th century. The cross is set within a plain inner circle. The surrounding legend, disposed in Gothic characters between the inner and outer border, bears the Christus vincit formula. The mint-mark letter, identifying the place of striking (N for Nantes, R for Rennes, or V for Vannes), appears at the end of the reverse legend. The overall design reflects the standard late medieval French feudal gros type. |
