| Beschrijving voorzijde | A long cross pattée extending to the coin's edge divides the field into four quarters, each containing a pellet or fleur-de-lis ornament in the angles. The peripheral legend in Gothic uncial characters reads around the entire circumference, identifying Edward as King of England and invoking a religious benediction. The hammered flan is irregular in shape, with the cross as the dominant design element occupying the central field. The lettering is arranged in two concentric arcs, consistent with the Tournois gros tradition adapted for the Plantagenet duchy. |
