Reverse description The reverse displays a large royal crown of France in the centre of the field, rendered in bold relief with fleur-de-lis finials rising above the coronet band. The crown is surrounded by an elaborate decorative border composed of eight circular medallions each containing a fleur-de-lis, interspersed with Gothic foliage and trefoil ornaments, all set within a beaded inner circle. A large cross pattee surmounts the crown. The outer legend carries the benediction + BNDICTV : SIT : NOMEN : DNI : NRI with the royal name IOHANNES REX, consistent with the coinage of John II of France issued by ordinance of 14 April 1361.
