Obverse description Central field features a plain cross pattee enclosed within a beaded inner circle, characteristic of the traditional tournois design. The cross divides the inner circle into four equal quadrants. An intermediate legend zone between the beaded circle and the outer border carries the royal inscription. The outer legend reads + TVRONVS CIVIS, identifying the coin as struck at Tours. The entire design is executed in the hammered style typical of mid-fourteenth-century French royal coinage.
