| Obverse description | Enthroned crowned figure of Charlemagne (Carolus Magnus) facing, depicted in imperial robes, holding a sceptre or orb, with a large Gothic church or cathedral façade rising prominently to his left in the field. The effigy is rendered in the bold, stylised relief characteristic of 14th-century Rhenish hammered coinage. A beaded inner circle frames the central design, with the Latin legend reading SCS x KAROLVS MAGH x IMPOR arranged around the periphery between the inner and outer beaded borders. |
