Obverse description Armored half-length bust of Edward of Woodstock (the Black Prince) facing left, wearing a crown with fleurs-de-lis and depicted in plate armor with a sword held upright before him. The prince is shown bearded, with flowing hair visible beneath the crown, rendered in a bold Gothic style characteristic of mid-14th-century Aquitainian coinage. The figure is enclosed within a beaded inner circle, with the circumferential legend running in Gothic uncial lettering between the inner and outer beaded borders.
