Beschrijving voorzijde Central field features a half-length frontal figure of Edward of Woodstock (the Black Prince), crowned and nimbed, depicted in a stylized Gothic manner with hands raised in a gesture of benediction or holding regalia, enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The figure is rendered in high relief typical of hammered medieval coinage of the Aquitaine series. A continuous Gothic legend in uncial Latin script encircles the design within the outer beaded border, reading the prince's title and descent from the English crown. The overall style reflects the Anglo-Gascon artistic tradition of the mid-fourteenth century.

(Translation: Edward, first son of the King.)
Beschrijving keerzijde The reverse displays a bold long cross pattée dividing the field into four quadrants, each containing three pellets arranged in a triangular pattern, for a total of twelve pellets. The cross extends to the inner beaded circle, following the standard sterling type common to English and Anglo-Gascon coinage of the period. A mint mark appears at the base of the cross. The surrounding legend in uncial Latin runs continuously between the inner beaded circle and the outer irregular hammered edge, proclaiming the issuer's title as Prince of Aquitaine.
