Within the four quadrants formed by the cross arms, the words of the inner legend — SALVE REGINA MISERICORDIE VITA DULCEDO ET SPES — are distributed, with each word or syllable occupying a quadrant in uncial Gothic lettering. An outer legend repeats or continues the same Marian antiphon text, separated from the inner legend by the beaded circle. The overall composition is characteristic of late medieval Swiss civic coinage, with the cross dominating the design field. |
