Obverse description Central field features the heraldic shield of the Duchy of Bar — charged with two barbels (fish) addorsed and semé of crosses — set within a beaded quadrilobe frame. The shield is rendered in Gothic style with fine engraving detail. A circular legend in uncial Gothic lettering surrounds the quadrilobe, separated from the inner design by a beaded border. The overall composition is characteristic of late medieval French feudal coinage.
Obverse script Latin (uncial)
Obverse lettering + ROB`T`: DVX: BARRES`: ET: mA`
(Translation: Robert, duke of Bar and marquis.)
