Obverse description Central field bears a quartered heraldic shield displaying the combined arms of Bar and Lorraine: the dexter half shows the fleurs-de-lis of Bar, while the sinister half displays the alerions (eaglets) of Lorraine, all within a raised inner circle. A cross pattée surmounts the shield at the chief, extending to the inner circle. The surrounding legend, separated from the shield by a beaded inner ring, runs clockwise and identifies the issuer as René, Duke of Bar and Lorraine, Marquis. The outer border features a raised cable or rope pattern typical of mid-fifteenth-century Lorraine hammered coinage.
