Matthias II secured the Hungarian crown in 1608 through a remarkable act of fraternal coercion — forcing his brother Rudolf II to cede the kingdom after mobilizing the Hungarian estates against him. His reign was defined by constant pressure from both the Ottoman frontier and Protestant nobility demanding religious concessions, the latter formalized in the 1608 diet that preceded his coronation. These groschen were struck across that turbulent stretch before his death in 1619 transferred the crown to Ferdinand II and sharpened the confessional conflict into outright war.
The two Huszár references reflect documented die variations within the type rather than separate issues.
