| Obverse description | Frontal enthroned effigy of King Louis I depicted in Gothic style, shown full-length seated upon an ornate Gothic throne, holding a scepter in his right hand and an orb in his left, all within a beaded (pearl) circle. A mintmark appears either at the side of the throne or at the bottom of the field. The legend encircling the design is rendered in Latin uncial characters and identifies the king by name and title. |
